Born at Versailles in France and a student in Paris. Rochegrosse made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1882 with his piece Vitellis traîné dans les rues de Rome par la populace. His work received a number of noteworthy accolades including the Prix du Salon (1883) and the title of Officer of the Legion of Honor (1892.)
It is also worth mentioning that Rochegrosse's former studio, a church in Paris at 20 bis, rue Chaptal, was later converted by Oscar Méténier in 1897 and would be known as Le Théâtre du Grand-Guignol!
