Moulin Rouge, La Goulue by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Japon lithograph, 1896

$22,000.00

Lithograph of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec’s Moulin Rouge, La Goulue, published by Imprimerie Chaix, also known for publishing the works of Belle Epoque master Jules Chéret. While this poster was printed in multiple sizes and formats, this extremely scarce edition of 25 strikes on Imperial Japon paper from 1896 is the most desirable. The rare, small format poster lithographs created at this time were printed using rich, dense, lead inks, and the special Japon paper editions allowed the inks to rest upon its surface rather than being absorbed by a more permeable paper stock, resulting in a superior, jewellery-like boldly colored strike. A very limited fraction of this edition are estimated to have survived to date.

Paper measures 8 1/2 x 12 7/16 inches. Exceptional condition commensurate with age. Image pristine and will frame beautifully. This artwork is presented in archival rag mat and arrives accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
