To celebrate the publication of our book Beautiful Macabre: Rare Posters 1868-1981, we created comfortable, high-quality t-shirts featuring the 1896 Sphinx Moth illustration by Bernhard Pankok.
Bernhard Pankok was born in 1872 in Münster, Germany, and became one of the most celebrated painters and graphic designers of the Art Nouveau movement in Germany. His illustration of the Sphinx Moth was created for Jugend magazine in 1896, and is featured in our book Jugendstil Volume 1 (1896) alongside a large number of his artworks, and is utilized as a design element in our new book celebrating the beautiful, dark, and strange: Beautiful Macabre.
